Acrylic Bongs

Acrylic bongs - Lightweight bongs made of acrylic glass

Bongs made of plastic resp. acrylic glass are an inexpensive, colorful alternative to the popular glass bong. Especially when it comes to purchasing, an acrylic bong is unbeatable in terms of its price-performance ratio. This is mainly due to the fact that the plastic for bong production is significantly cheaper than comparatively glass or ceramic. Maybe not the bong for every day - but in any case a good alternative for camping, festivals or traveling, if you do not want to endanger your favorite glass bong.

Acrylic bongs exist in a wide variety of designs. Often you see them in the well-tried standard formats as cylinder, beaker or ball/belly bong with different diameters. Because there are almost no limits to the design of plastic, you will encounter bongs with a carb hole, icebox or even percolators. Some manufacturers even offer products that can be expanded modularly by combining them with other components via a plug-in system. For example, a standard acrylic cylinder bong can be changed in height or upgraded with an ice insert or perc in no time. Also accordion or telescopic acrylic bongs offer something for the eye as well as for the subsequent smoking pleasure due to their pull-out function.

So in terms of design, acrylic bongs offer a whole lot. They become particularly interesting in combination with matching accessories, such as colorful seals, mouth rings or even special accessories such as a filter adapter or precooler. However, you have to search for such an item more intensively and possibly also dig a little deeper into your pocket than for a basic model.

Assembly and maintenance of acrylic bongs

Most synthetic bongs are simply assembled by plugging the individual parts together or connecting them to each other via a coarse screw thread. Usually, there is no section similar to the good ol' ground glass joint for the use of the chillum. Instead, the bong body has a simple hole through which the chillum is directed into the bong. The leakage of bong water is prevented by a rubber seal. This additionally holds the chillum in position. The bowl, usually made of aluminum, depending on the type of chillum is plugged or screwed to it. It is often equipped with a small 15mm pipe screen. Furthermore, many acrylic bongs are equipped with a removable stand. This can also be provided with an additional function depending on the model, for example by offering space for an LED light or a storage compartment for pot.

The maintenance of an acrylic bong is very simple, if it is done regularly. Because acrylic bongs tend to become dirty at a faster rate than glass bongs, we recommend cleaning the bong after each session, if possible, to ensure long-term smoking enjoyment. The removable stand has proven to be advantageous for thorough cleaning, which allows the bong to be cleaned from both sides. Especially for pipes with a ball-shaped belly, this is positively noticeable. For thorough cleaning, warm water and a suitable cleaning agent is sufficient. You should be careful not to use aggressive agents, because they can attack the material of the bong and destroy the smoking device. If you use a bong cleaner concentrate, you should mix it with a little more water and test whether the dirt can already be dissolved with it.

What to consider before buying an acrylic bong

In addition to many positive features, there is one disadvantage to buying an acrylic bong. This is briefly and succinctly explained: An acrylic bong is not made for eternity! Even with good care, regular use is over after a few months at the latest and a new bong is needed. But why is that? In contrast to glass, acrylic is more porous and has different properties in terms of its absorption capacity. The material surface experiences a comparatively stronger abrasion through the change of use and repeated cleaning of the bong. Commercially available bong cleaners, which tend to be somewhat sharper and additionally attack the surface, cause it to become brittle. This results in discoloration, streaks as well as superficial scratches and hairline cracks in which dirt residues can be permanently deposited. As a result, with each smoking session more deposits are accumulated. These influence the smoke of the following sessions through their own odor and taste and, in the worst case, can also start giving off a foul stench at some point.
